Comcast Needs Some Serious Help in Albuquerque

I love this one right from the TeamComcast website. Comcast is advertising for a “Retention Representative” in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The job description states, “Position is responsible for right packaging customers in order to save them from disconnecting/downgrading services due to perceived lack of value. Comcast is advertising for a “Retention Representative” in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The job description states, “Position is responsible for right packaging customers in order to save them from disconnecting/downgrading services due to perceived lack of value. This individual will reaffirm the customer experience and relationship by reevaluating the benefits and value of Comcast’s products and services as it pertains to the customers needs.

Requirements: High School diploma or general equivalency degree.

Here’s an idea…how about actually PROVIDING VALUE so that you don’t have to create a position to try to convince customers otherwise.  Talk about a job description that is set up to fail…ROTFLOL!

Comcast Political Action Committee Gives Back $15K

Comcast has returned the $15,000 donated by Ed Snider (Chairman of Comcast’s Comcast-Spectacor subsidiary) to the Comcast Political Action Committee.  It turns out that “Fast Eddie” has a stake in the proposed Foxwoods Casino Philadelphia project, and Pennsylvania has a law that prohibits political donations from casino investors.  But apparently [...]

But apparently the state sees no conflict of interest in cable providers owning sports teams, because Comcast-Spectacor owns the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers.

Watch out for the letter coming in your bill next month: “Rates are going up because of the sky-rocketing cost of buying politicians, but we’ll be adding C-SPAN to your lineup FOR FREE so you can keep an eye on these guys for us and make sure we’re getting our moneys worth.”

Comcast Internet Bandwidth Cap Designed to Protect CATV Market

Please read this post by Steve Borsch at Minnov8.com

Steve is a Comcast subscriber in Minnesota who has adroitly unraveled the true intent of the 250GB cap that Comcast has placed on home Internet service.  His post prompted a response from David Diers, VP of Advanced Services for Comcast Twin Cities…so it must have hit a nerve!

Diers continually fell back on Comcast’s position and argued that only a tiny fraction of customers even came close to the 250GB bandwidth caps (and that they at Comcast are being incredibly generous with such a huge cap)

Steve responded with “I tried to focus on the “control over tv” theme in the post and make the point that the rapid adoption of sites like YouTube and Hulu — and the increased use of media centers by everyday consumers of TV — is the threat they’re trying to stave off.”

I hate to say “I told you so”, but let me refer you back to the Interview with Steve Burke post here at CUT-THE-CABLE.  Their intent has been clearly stated all along…just not in the mainstream.

The New Comcast Manifesto: “We believe in a free market (unless you are a Comcast Customer in which case we will POP A CAP on yo azz).”

Comcast COO Steve Burke is Offensive

Read this ditty at FREEP.COM What started out as a hometown interview with Comcast COO Steve Burke has turned into a Comcast-Bashing free-for-all. With idiotic comments like “”We’re continuing to invest in the business. We’re giving people raises, we’re hiring people, we still have a match for 401(k) contributions” and; “stock price has dropped by [...]

“”We’re continuing to invest in the business. We’re giving people raises, we’re hiring people, we still have a match for 401(k) contributions”
and;
“stock price has dropped by about half since the start of 2007, closing Monday at $14.36 a share — but it has posted steady profits of $2.5 billion each of the past three years as sales grew from $25 billion in 2006 to more than $34 billion last year.”
it’s no wonder that people in Detroit who are struggling with their livelihoods are LIVID with this company and their leadership’s insensitivity towards how this ecomomy is impacting their customers.

Hey Steve-O…have you ever considered taking care of your customers first instead of your MINIONS.  Why don’t you give yourself a bonus. You deserve it, buddy!

See the detailed proof and picture quality comparison between FiOS and Comcast at AVSForum

Forum member BFDTV has been conducting a detailed and intense comparison of HDTV signals being broadcast by various companies, Comcast and Verizon included.  His study continues and all of his findings along with the details and sources are included.

Here is one example…you be the judge:

FiOS - Red Hot Chilli Peppers Live on MHD

FiOS - Red Hot Chilli Peppers Live on MHD

ComCrap - Red Hot Chili Peppers Live on MHD

ComCrap - Red Hot Chili Peppers Live on MHD

There are pleanty more examples availble.  For those of you that have been on Twitter or other forums complaining about pixelation and the overall Comcast signal quality…IT MAY NOT BE THE SIGNAL AT ALL!!!  It may be the result of Comcast OVER COMPRESSING certain channels so that they can fit more garbage channels into their lineup.

Here is a sample of the SIZE of the signal being sent down the pipe by these two carriers.  The difference in size directly translates to picture quality.

                                            FiOS          Comcast           Difference

AETV HD                                18.66 Mbps      14.48 Mbps           -28.9%
Discovery HD                       14.16 Mbps      10.43 Mbps           -35.8%
Discovery HD Theater      17.45 Mbps      12.60 Mbps           -38.5%
Food Network HD               14.32 Mbps      13.73 Mbps            -4.3%
HGTV HD                                14.76 Mbps      12.43 Mbps           -18.7%
MHD                                          17.73 Mbps      13.21 Mbps           -34.2%
National Geographic HD   13.40 Mbps      11.92 Mbps           -12.4%
Universal HD                         12.72 Mbps      11.01 Mbps           -15.5%

HBO HD                                     8.87 Mbps       8.81 Mbps           -0.7%
Cinemax HD                          11.40 Mbps      10.77 Mbps            -5.8%
Starz HD                                  11.93 Mbps       9.76 Mbps           -22.2%

BFDTV comments, “The greatest differences are seen with movement. With slow movement on Comcast, the first thing you notice is added noise and a softer image, as fine detail is filtered from the picture signal. The greater the rate of movement, the more detail you lose and the more noise you see. With intense movement, you see more blocking and skipped frames. In VideoRedo, I noticed that a number of frames in the FiOS signal simply did not exist in the Comcast signal during motion intensive scenes. This may be responsible for the stutter and excessive motion blur seen with some video sequences on Comcast.”

…and the saga continues.  Remeber all of the money you spent on that nice wall mounted HDTV set?  Here’s an idea, take the money you are throwing away on Comcast and build up your BLURAY disc collection!  (-;

Comcast & Sprint: A Marriage Made in Hell

How can 1+1=0?  See the Business Insider to find out.

Speculation of Comcast buying Sprint heats up after Comcast CEO Brian Roberts spoke at a cable show in Washington D.C. on 4/1/09.

  • “Wireless is a conundrum for the cable industry”  Conundrum..interesting!  Kinda like “how do you make cable wireless?”
  • “AT&T and Verizon are not the elephants in the room, they’re the super elephants, They’ve got all the market share, and it’s going to be a tough road to hoe” If they are the ‘Super Elephants’ then you must be JABBA THE HUTT.  Quote from JTH: “This bounty hunter is my kind of scum: fearless and inventive.”
  • “Putting a bunch of us in a company with the benefit of Sprint and their infrastructure felt like an interesting road for us to go into” Hey!  There’s an idea.  Let’s BUY a company with an infrastructure that actually…WORKS!
  • Roberts also avoided a clear answer to the question as to whether Clearwire was Comcast’s sole wireless strategy, indicating that Comcast’s “current” focus was making Clearwire successful. Hmmmm, I can’t image anyone from Comcast avoiding a clear answer to a queston (-;  It appears that Comcast’s Customer Service takes their marching orders right from the top!

If you’re here you’ve probably heard of Frank Eliason.  He’s on the Comcast payroll as their Director of Digital Care.  What is a Director of Digital Care you ask?  It appears to be a someone that gets 6-figures for surfing the web.  And now by having someone that has had moderate success in duping customers into believing there is someone that actually cares within their walls, Comcast is looking to sell this ‘Technology’ to other companies.

How would you like to be the company that is seeking Comcast’s advice on improving customer service?  ROTFLOL!!!

How many Frank Eliasons do you think there are?

Whoa!!!  Check out some of these quotes.  Is this guy in LALA Land or what?

“We and the programmers are going to want to make sure that the cable programming that people pay for when they get basic TV service doesn’t go completely on the Internet, so there is still a reason to subscribe to cable.”  Did this knucklehead just admit to conspiring with the networks to create artificial demand?

“…content companies are going to make sure that people keep paying cable companies and cable companies keep paying them.”   Hmmm, so the formula to get rid of your sorry ass is to ‘cut out the middle man’.

“…even when you do things right 99.9 percent of the time, when you have 24 million customers, you get a lot of phone calls and lot of repair issues and things you need to do.”  LOL…no comment required!

“…our biggest cost is the programmers, and our programming costs keep going up every year. So, we…pass on those costs to our customers. And unfortunately those costs go up and our prices go up.”  Ohhhh, so it’s the programming…the guys that get paid by the advertisers AND the cable companies.  It’s a wonder that ABC, CBS, and NBC were able to survive before you came along!
